Automatic Shut Off

The scale will automatically shut off if the display shows ‘0’ or the same number for 2 minutes. To shut off the scale manually, press the Power/Tare button for approximately 3 seconds.

What digital scales bring to the kitchen are accuracy and the ability to reset the weight to zero before adding another ingredient.Say, for example, you are making a curry that calls for 5g or garum masala, 10g of cumin, and 5g of turmeric. You could of course use the balance scales you inherited from a relative born 5 generations before or use this. Put the container on the weighing plate. Switch on and then add 5g of garum masala. Now press the "tare" button to rest to zero and add 10g of cumin to the same container.So far, this is standard digital weighing stuff. It's called additive weighing. But there is also another need in the kitchen which is "subtractive" weighing , or as I like to call it "How much did I use?".For example, when making a cake, you might be adding milk to a bowl too big for use on these scales (i.e. you can't see the display) and who wants to dirty an extra jug/container. In this case, switch on the scales and then put the full milk bottle on. You will now see the weight of the full bottle. Press the Tare/reset button and the scales will display Zero. Add some milk to your cake batter and put the bottle back on the scales and it will now show how much milk you used (it will display -300 if you used 300g of milk).Now, if you prefer, you can switch to Lbs/Ozs with one click of the left button. You can also switch to fluid ozs or ml with another few clicks. But, the volume measures for liquids are only an estimation as the scales do not know the temperature nor density of the liquid you are weighing. But for every day weighing/measuring it is ok.Overall, I am very impressed with these scales. They are built well and use AAA batteries (included) that are always in my house (rather than the button cell batteries used by the scales this replaced).Obviously, if you are doing recipes that need fractions of a gram (cheese making or molecular gastronomy), then this is not for you but you would know that already.

    This simple tool makes baking so much more accurate! This scale is sleek looking, simple to operate and works great. It seems to be quite sensitive to the smallest amounts and likely accurate since my bread has come out wonderful!

    I never realized how much extra flour I was using by using measuring cups. It's so much more accurate and convenient to measure flour: Turn on the scale, press "unit" until "g" shows, place the bowl, press "tare" and add the ingredient until you reach your desired weight. I also had no idea how much 80g of cilantro could be, since it is sold by the bunch not weight - and it was very easy to use this scale to find out.

    Loving it. Great value, really does the trick, no need for a more fancy scale here!
