About this item
- Doorly's XO is a Barbados Rum first aged in ex-bourbon casks for between 5 and 6 years, after which it undergoes a second maturation in ex-sherry casks
- Very elegant nose of toffee with loads of vanilla and mocha and a touch of honey. A rich, spicy yet subtle rum with surprisingly mellow and complex flavours resulting from its maturation in old oloroso sherry casks. A touch of vinous flavour tied up with sweet banana and raisins that lingers with great balance.
- Wonderfully approachable and versatile. Beautiful rum for sipping as you would a malt whisky or brandy, but also a great base for cocktails
- As with all Doorly's rums, this is bottled without tha addition of any sweetener or flavourings
- Made at Foursquare Rum Distillery in St Philip, Barbados, one of the few remaining independent family owned producers in the Caribbean.
- The Distillery has been the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) Rum Producer of the Year four times, in 2016 through 2019 and the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) Rum Producer of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Product description
Product Description
Foursquare is one of Barbados’ oldest trading houses, a family-owned business whose involvement in rummaking extends from father-to-son since 1820. Current head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour. The Foursquare Distillery occupies the site of a former sugar factory that dates back to 1636 and, as one of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, is designed to be both highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Rums at Foursquare are a blend of the artisanal copper pot still and traditional twin –column still distillation. Blended Rums are uncommon but represent the quintessential expression of the Barbadian style. The pot still gives the rum greater complexity and depth of flavour and is truly an artisanal small batch process. The column still allows the final blend to have a superior balance both in aroma and on the palate. The column still at Foursquare comprises two columns and is a modern version of a ‘coffey still’. Innovation means that distillation is performed under vacuum and thus at a lower temperature producing a better quality spirit. The all copper pot still is a unique evolution of the classic Caribbean pot/double retort design. The distillery exports RL Seale 10 Year old, the Foursquare exceptional cask series, the Doorly’s range of fine rums amongst others. The Distillery also produces John D Taylor’s Velvet Falernum a uniquely Barbadian rum based liqueur

From the manufacturer

Doorly's XO
To produce the unique character of Doorly’s XO, very old rums are selected by the master blender and matured for a second time in Spanish oloroso sherry casks, producing a delicious fusion of complex flavours from the cask and the well-aged rums.
The Foursquare Distillery
The Foursquare Distillery occupies the site of a former sugar factory that dates back to 1636 and, as one of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, is designed to be both highly energy efficient and environmentally conscious. The distillery produces light rums in a three-column vacuum still and heavier rums in a modern pot still. RL Seale is one of Barbados’ oldest trading houses, a family-owned business whose involvement in rum-making extends from father-to-son since 1820. Current head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour.
The Island Of Barbados
Rum has been produced on the island of Barbados for more than 300 years, but it was not until the 1906 Rum Duty Act was passed that the industry began to develop as we know it today. Prior to this, distillation took place on many of the plantations, but the new law meant the distilleries had to obtain a licence and could sell only in bulk. Hence many of the Bridgetown trading companies became bottlers, including Martin Doorly & Co, and the growth of branded names began. Martin Doorly evolved into Doorly’s Macaw Rum, and became the first bottled rum exported from the island. Doorly’s rums are still famous throughout the world.
The Seale Family
Foursquare Distillery is owned by the Seale family who have five generations of rum-making expertise dating back to 1820. The family itself can trace its roots on the island back to the 1650s. Being wholly family owned means we are free to pursue a perfectionist agenda compared to most Caribbean rum distilleries which are beholden to the major spirit companies. We invest more time and more money than other distilleries because we believe it makes a difference to the taste.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2021I thoroughly enjoyed the Doorly's 5 year old bottling but this is in a somewhat different league. Great as a sipping rum, neat, no ice. Super flavour, although taste is very subjective and this may not be everyone's opinion. I most certainly will be buying this again.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 April 2021This is the first rum I've ever tried, and I'm hooked! I usually drink whisk(e)y and bourbon, and the first thing I noticed is that it's got a pretty strong bourbon flavour profile to it. I get a lot of vanilla, caramel, raisins and coffee on the palate, with a hint of sherry and nice little kick imilar to what you'd get if you were to drink a bourbon, it's a very welcome one though for only being 43%. The after taste seems to last quite a while too. I loved the fact that it has no added sugar in it as well which is a plus. Can't wait to try the doorly's 12 and 14 year. Highly recommend this!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 June 2023Extremely smooth small drop of water brought roasted banana to the forefront. This is up beside the best rums but for me a touch too dry. My favourite in the price range is El Darado 12 year old . Bacardi 10 year old which is not mass produced is worth a try also if you enjoy these simlour styles.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2023I've been procrastinating over Dooryl's XO for some time, but took the plunger when on for £32.
It's very nice, admittedly. Not my fave, as I immediately shared other peoples' views in that it's quite a dry Rum and I also prefer something a little more spiced and potentially with more sugar (El Dorado 15, Zapaca 23 or MG Black Barrel). Certainly wouldn't say no to a bottle as a gift and have a glass in hand now. It will certainly be gone by Xmas!
Lovely box, nice bottle, but I HATE, HATE, HATE the fake cork! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Taste - I know what other reviewers mean about the Banana, and a couple of drops of water bring it out even more, and further sweetness if that's how you prefer your Rum! ;-)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 January 2024If you like a dark rum you will definitely like this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 April 2024This is a stunning Rum.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2019Best rum I had for the money. Oloroso cask gave the sweetness and roundness needed for the easiest and nicest sipping rum. Add a cigar and you are set for you evening of relaxation.
I will never be able to recommend this rum enough, and I had many to try before this particular one.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 July 2017Without doubt the finest rum you can buy under £70. Has the depth of flavour, smoothness and warmth of a proper Barbados Rum (without the sweetness of many rums) but with the kick and a very good Bourbon. Quite complex in it's flavours as it runs over your tongue - for me, this isn't a mixer... it's a genuine sipper. If you want a drink of rum with flavours and a good fire in it's belly, then this is the rum of choice.
